More celeb slimdowns in New Idea

MagWatch: New Idea 7 January 2013

New Idea 7 Jan 2013Any given time of year there’s always a weight loss story to be found in the magazines at your local newsagent. But at New Year’s, the shelves just explode with diet tips and celeb success stories.  It’s ace.

Seems us greedy consumers will gobble up any morsel of diet advice these mag editors care to dish up. I know I will.

New Idea this week has Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Natalie Bassingthwaite (cute baby bump and all) and Vogue Williams on the cover. Plus the promise: your best body for 2013. Who wouldn’t want that, eh?

Inside we see our celebrity pals posing in bikinis poolside and sharing their tips.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley: cut back on carbs

Natalie Bassingthwaite: fresh fruit, vegetables and very few carbs

Kate Waterhouse: I only eat till I’m full

Jaynie Seal (who?): a big breakfast of egs, broccoli, cabbage, capsicum, spinach and onion (sounds gross)

Vogue Williams: mix up your exercise

But wait! That’s not all.  We also get the new Dash Diet, sadly not affiliated with Kardashians.

This eating plan was recently voted the healthiest diet in America. Yippee.  In Phase One, the first two weeks you eat vegies and protein and avoid starch and sugar.  Phase two sees reintroduction of those bad boys, carbs.  Sounds like everything we’ve all heard before! But still, perhaps hearing this for the thousandth time it might just sink in.

Ps. Guilty confession: I just ate a whole lot of Lindt chocolates my mother in law bought for my kids.

It’s diet season…

Who 7 Jan 7 2013

MagWatch: Who Magazine 7 Jan 2013

Go Pink!

Ten or twelve years ago, when Pink, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were pretty young things storming the charts, who would have predicted that in 2013 Pink would be riding high while Britney and Christina would be marking the twilight of their careers with reality TV judging roles?  Not me.

Anyway, here she is on the cover of Who’s mega seller ‘Half Their Size’ special edition.

But really.  How photoshopped are her thighs? It’s hardly an accurate portrayal of her weight loss. I’d dearly love to see the before photo… before the photoshop wizard did their thing.

Plus… Pink make up your mind.  Are you taking your top off or leaving it on? One hand says whip it off while the other is halfheartedly trying to protect her modesty.   But who cares when she has those abs?

Nevermind that this exact same story was featured in Who back in September.  Us silly readers will gobble it up again like freshly baked croissants like the greedy gluttons we are.

But it’s not just Pink. Inside we have the slimming secrets of oh-so-many celebs – ones I’ve heard of!  Khloe Kardashian, Rebel Wilson, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Osbourne, Katherine McPhee, Gillian Anderson and loads more!

Plus, for those who like their inspiration closer to home (okay, some via the US) there are real life losers who share their secrets.   Looking at the before photos, I’d say excess weight really is so ageing! All these slimmers look so much younger now they are skinny minxes.

Just the inspiration we need after the usual Christmas blowout.

Beach body Showdown!

MagWatch: NW Magazine 31 December 2012

NW 31 Dec 12Magazine subs have the best jobs. All day, writing crazy headlines like Beach Body Showdown, and getting paid.  Except for all the industry decline and such, I bet it’s fun.

I’m getting old. See, I don’t even know who half the people are in the aforementioned beach body showdown. So it’s hard to care much.

The showdown consists of real people in bikinis I’ve never head of versus fake people in bikinis (that I’ve never head of). Not like a fisticuffs or foxyboxing on the beach you might have envisaged with the headline.

Okay, I do know some of these gals.  Miranda Kerr, of course. Jessica Hart, I even met her once and she was lovely, but she didn’t eat much of her lunch (I watched closely). It seems Jess doesn’t do much lunch eating from her photos, but how would I know? She might eat lunch each and every day.

People I wouldn’t know if they punched me in the throat include: Deena Cortez, Billi Mucklow, Sam Faiers, Candice Swanepol, Lisa Hochstein, Alexis Bullino and Maria Fowler. But good for them.

The next part of the showdown comes with Oscar-like awards, for those with ‘Best Bums’ ‘Best Curves’ etc.   Ignoring the plethora of photos of lovely ladies in the near-buff, NW does a commendable job of mostly positive comments about their figures. Mostly.  Except for the whole article in itself encouraging women to care about how they look on the beach and compare themselves to celebrities whose job is to be fit and healthy.

Can I just add the photo of Nicki Minaj is worth the cover price alone. What an ass! Magnificent.

Elsewhere in the magazine, there is a very nice dress on page 62 that I would purchase if I had the means.  That is all.

What the stars really weigh? Not much.

MagWatch: OK Magazine, 24 December 2012

OK Magazine 24 DecemberFirst up, someone get the editor of OK Magazine a calendar.  They’ve accidentally labelled this week’s issue as 24 December, a good nine days from today.  What’s with that pre-dating thing?

Anyway, who gives a stuff when there are statistics on celeb weights! I love seeing how much they all weigh, then comforting myself with a Caramel Ego Magnum because I am a good 20 kilos heavier than Victoria Beckham. (She’s 45 kilos and we’re the same height too.)

These stats give us the all-important heights as well.  Yes, Kylie Minogue weighs 44 kilos but she is a teensy five foot tall. (She says five one, but we all know she’s telling porky pies. Yeh, right, next she’ll be saying she’s done nuffin to her face.)

Anyway, here’s the skinny (geddit?)

Alexa Chung, 47 kilos 5’8Gwen Stefani 52 kilos 5’6Paris Hilton, 52 kilos 5’8 Christina Hendricks, 70 kilos, 5’7 Miranda Kerr, 55 kilos, 5’9 Taylor Swift, 55 kilos, 5’11

Check out OK Magazine for even more minuscule numbers for further thinspiration from a good 20 celebs.

Stuff yourself with stevia?

Here’s an interesting article in The Age today, all about the miracle new sugar substitute, Stevia.

Probably best not to eat sugar or sugar substitutes at all but living in the real world it’s nice to scoff a sugary treat from time to time (say, from 9am till 9pm).

The comments board makes more interesting reading than the article!

J-Lo: hottest body ever!

MagWatch: Grazia, 3 December 2012

Grazia 3 December 2012

There’s something about J-Lo. I’m a fan.  Not only is she absolutely stunning, she’s got an ass and is proud of it.  She’s not the greatest actress or singer but she’s hard working and very successful. I’d argue that is more admirable than someone like, say Adele, who was born with amazing talent. (Don’t fret Adele: love you too, sugar puff!)

So I was happy to part with well-earned cash to grab this week’s Grazia to investigate J-Lo’s exercise and diet secrets.  Who wouldn’t?

Secret 1: Hot, fit boyfriend who takes you jogging.

Secure boyfriend, then jog daily for one hour at dawn, enjoying the sunrise in a cuddle post workout.  (Because sweaty, stinky workout cuddles are the best)

Secret 2: ensure boyfriend supports diet and does not scoffi Pods under your nose, like your ex-hubby did

Casper shares Jen’s diet of egg white omelets, black coffee, tuna salads and steamed fish with vegetables. Bless.

Secret 3: no carbs, alcohol or sugar

Secret 4: dancing, preferably on stage on your world tour

Secret 5: 60 mins of exercise a day.

Jen has twins, toy boy a busy career plus hair maintenance commitments, so if she can find time, so can us mere mortals.

Check out Grazia for more of Jen’s tips (supplied by someone who knows her).

Call the fat police

Fat Hotline?

What a good idea… the NSW government provides free weight loss phone calls with nutritionists and other experts for people wanting to lose weight.  And it’s been very successful.

Here’s the full story:

http://www.theage.com.au/lifestyle/diet-and-fitness/over-the-phone-fat-coaching-20121129-2ain6.html

It’s great to see news about a program that works instead of depressing statistics about how fat we all are!
